This page describes how to restore a SIWENOID v2 installation from a backup file. A restore operation is used when recovering from a hardware failure, software corruption, accidental misconfiguration, or when migrating the system to a new server machine.
SIWENOID v2 produces backup files with the extension .swnbackup. Backups are created either from within the SIWENOID v2 application (via File → Settings → Safety Backup) or automatically by the installer during an upgrade. Both types of backup are restored using the same SIWENOID v2 installer, but the available restore components differ depending on how the backup was created.
Important: A restore operation overwrites the current SIWENOID v2 configuration and database with the contents of the backup file. All configuration changes and event log entries made after the backup was taken will be lost. Always confirm you are restoring the correct backup file before proceeding.

Before beginning the restore process:
Use this method when restoring a backup that was created using the Safety Backup function inside the SIWENOID v2 application (File → Settings → Safety Backup). This type of backup contains the client and server application data and configuration.
Step 1 — Launch the installer
Run the SIWENOID v2 installer (Start_Windows.bat) and select Restore from the main menu.
Step 2 — Browse for the backup file
Step 3 — Select restore components and installation path
Select which components to restore. For a backup created from within the application, the available components are:
In most recovery scenarios, both components should be selected. If only the server was backed up (a common configuration on single-machine installations), select Server only.
Browse to the SIWENOID v2 installation path. This must match the directory where SIWENOID v2 is currently installed (default: C:\Siwenoid).
Step 4 — Run the restore
Click Next to begin the restore process. The installer will extract the backup contents and restore all selected components to the specified installation path. SIWENOID v2 services will be restarted automatically when the restore is complete.
Verify the system after the restore by starting the SIWENOID v2 server, checking that all services start successfully, and confirming that the restored configuration (subsystems, maps, users) is present and correct.
Use this method when restoring a backup that was created automatically by the SIWENOID v2 installer during a version upgrade. The installer creates a full backup of all components before applying an upgrade, allowing a rollback to the previous version if needed.
Step 1 — Launch the installer
Run the SIWENOID v2 installer (Start_Windows.bat) and select Restore from the main menu.
Step 2 — Browse for the backup file
Step 3 — Select restore components and installation path
Installer-created backups contain a more complete set of components than in-app backups. The available components are:
Select all components to perform a complete rollback to the pre-upgrade state. Individual components can be deselected if only a partial restore is needed — for example, restoring only the Database if the configuration data became corrupted but the application itself is functioning correctly.
Browse to the SIWENOID v2 installation path (default: C:\Siwenoid).
Step 4 — Run the restore
Click Next to begin the restore process. The installer restores all selected components. SIWENOID v2 services are restarted automatically on completion.
After the restore, start the SIWENOID v2 server and verify that all services initialise correctly and that the system operates as expected at the restored version.
